Hi, my name is Eoin. Welcome to my kayak diary! I’ve been around boats and the sea throughout my life; sailing with my father, scuba diving and, since 2016, sea-kayaking. I love being so close to the water, being so manoeuvrable and being able to navigate very shallow waters.
I started this blog in June 2019. Over the two years up to then I’d been out kayaking with my friend Paddy a few times and really enjoyed it. I had recently bought a kayak and basic gear and taken it out a few times. I decided to write up my trips in a blog as a way of making something more creative and substantial than a list of notes, though it was mostly just a personal diary and a way of extending my enjoyment of the kayak beyond the water.
I stopped posting in the Autumn of 2019; mainly because I was starting to go out so frequently with the club I joined that each individual trip was less of an important event than when I was going out on solo trips and trying to learn the ropes.
However recently re-reading some of my posts, I really appreciated having such detailed information about what I did and how I felt about it. I was a bit disappointed that I stopped writing altogether. I’m not sure if or how that will change in the medium term now, but at the very least I am inspired to do a bit of posting right now 🙂
